A Change is gonna come by Sam Cooke
I liked this song the instant he played it in class. I added this song to Spotify and listened to it like ten times before I even knew I could write about it. To start this song is such a freaking bop. I love the intro with the instruments slow yet powerful I think it sets the tone for the rest of the song. I am a sucker for slow emotional songs, so this song hooked me right away. I think that his voice just does such a good job of conveying all of his story. I think his words are so emotionally grabbing just telling of this hardship he has faced all his life yet knowing that things will eventually get better. This song is just really inspiring and so powerful. My favorite and I think the most powerful line in the song is "It's been too hard living But I'm afraid to die 'Cause I don't know what's up there Beyond the sky". He just says these words with something a little different, and they just mean so much. His words just have such an authority with them that carries his whole message.
It is heartbreaking that he didn't get a chance to see the time he sang about when things would be better. I don't think I could ever do this song justice with a little blog post. This song just clearly has his heart, soul, and aspirations. I loved everything about it this song. I think it does exactly what he had in mind.
This song has always had a special place in my heart! I remember when the BLM movements began happening and this song became a song of unity, it was beautiful to hear Cooke’s words playing loud as people marched. This song speaks volumes then and now, great job breaking it down!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard this song before! It's so great and majestic from the get-go. The lyrics are kind of sad though :/ But I'm so glad to hear the overall uplifting message, because it's SO important to have a positive outlook on life, especially in the era this song was created (for the African Americans). Thanks for your post, it was really entertaining to read and digest!
