 Firstly, this song is a freaking bop. This is one of those songs that has passed the test of time and people still listen to it today in spite of it being so long ago. This song is one of the most popular cover songs too. I feel like this is one a lot of people have a good voice for and choose to sing it. People realize how iconic and good this song truly is. I personally really enjoy it. I do think that this song is kinda played too much though. It has just gotten overplayed throughout the many years it has been released, but that does not detract from the song itself though. I think one of the reasons this is so popular is just the universal appeal. The sound isn't super specific to a time period or genre so that allows it to keep appealing to people.  I also think that the sound being slower and kinda gently allows everyone just to chill. The lyrics also play a role. I think that they are chill enough that if people don't want to think about what it really means then they don't have to. The lyrics like we talked about a bit in class have a deeper meaning and talk about how Cali is not the place to live. It also gives a really cool feeling at the end when it doesn't go into another chorus. Overall this song is a freaking bop!
