Great Speckled Bird Roy Acuff
I can kinda see a connection between this and some of the older country singers. Just his dialect and the words he uses makes a connection. He seemed very well-liked at the time for this type of music. I'm not a big fan of this style of music. This song is slower, but more so in the way, he just talks slow. Not in the way most are where they drag out their words and show more emotion. He puts his emotions and meaning into the writing more so than like how he sings I think It is pretty impressive that he still could sing so well in his old age. I think that the song is talking about being pure. It also kinda talks about how hard it is to stay like that and make it into heaven. I feel like most of the songs in this era and genre are love songs, adventure, and death. This one being about heaven and trying to be worthy is an interesting twist on that for sure. This song is just like a hymn where people could sing it in congregation too. There are recordings of this song from where he was fairly young all the way up until he was very old. He and this song were very well-liked for a long time.
I agree that a lot of songs in this era include love, adventure and death songs. And because of this I do find it interesting his different take on this song and how he performs it. I think that is why it was so popular because of how he expresses his emotions in the song.

ReplyDeleteI think it’s kind of crazy that a song can feel slow by the singer singing slow. I’m not a huge fan of country music so I probably won’t appreciate it as much as others. But it sounds like the song is about an interesting topic, I personally like a song with good lyrics with the meaning behind them.
I like that you made a connection between Acuff and older country singers- I hadn't really realized that until you said it. Of course, it could be because I don't listen to country music. I definitely agree that the way he maintains his talent even in old age is really impressive.
